Overall a good LCD monitor

Strengths: 16.7 million colors, DVI

Weakness: Slow response time

The 1704FPV has a really bright, sharp display. I cannot find any dead or stuck pixels. I like the fact that it can display 16.7 million true colors compared to only 16.2 million on the 1704FPT with its 12ms response time. These "faster" monitors create the missing colors with a technique called dithering. True colors are more important to me than response time. I do notice some ghosting in ordinary use which can easily be seen while whirling the mouse around on a medium gray screen. Scrolling text is hard to read due to the slow response time. However, I did not notice any ghosting while viewing a slow action DVD movie. I don't play action games so I cannot comment there. After 12 days of use I've gotten used to the slow response of this monitor. With a 3 year warranty and a decent price, and great color, I recommend this monitor for non-gaming general/graphical use where non-dithered true colors are preferred.

UltraSharp 1704FPV Black 17

Strengths: The sharpness is increditable compaired to my old monitor. It was very easy to set up and well worth the money.

Weakness: None

The Dell UltraSharp 1704FPV Black 17" LCD Monitor is money well spent. I had a tube monitor that came with my system and it was 19" and had a clear viewing screen. I wanted a LCD but it was too much money 2 years ago. Now I am glad I did wait because it was a lot cheaper and I got a much better product with the UltraSharp 1704FPV.

Dell UltraSharp 1704FPV Black 17" LCD Monitor

Strengths: USB 2.0 hub 2 ports on side and 2 ports on back. DVI input + analog input Can change to portrait mode

Weakness: Stand is too high. You can't lower it more than it's lowest level. You have to presse the setting buttons hard.

This monitor was a good investment I got after 20% off and 30 coupon. It has both analog and DVI input signals. It is easily adjustable left-to-right and up and down. You can also change to portrait mode (you'll have to buy the software).

The biggest plus is the usb 2.0 hub on side and on back of monitor.

the picture quality and text quality is not bad at all. i have not experience with video yet.

go out and buy one. great one.

UltraSharp 1704FPV review

Strengths: 2 USB ports on monitor. Choice of DVI or analog inputs. Good maximum resolution, text and pictures are sharp. Price.

Weakness: The monitor is a bit slow, I get a bit of pixel ghosting on high action movies (my video card is an XFX 6600GT)

The 2 USB ports on the side of the monitor are its biggest advantage. You never realize how usefull this feature is until you have tried it! I am surprised no other company has copied this feature.
You do not become fatigued looking at this monitor, its bright and the menu is easy to navigate. It is one of the most affordable LCDs with a DVI input having dropped under $200 with coupons in the last month. I highly reccommend it to others looking to replace their old CRTs with an LCD monitor.

Dell UltraSharp 1704FPV Black 17" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Affordable price, paid about 240 with coupons at Dell.com, Good perfomance/Price ratio,

Weakness: The stand is very heavy unlike other LCD monitors, menu buttons are a little bit confusing

I like the monitor overall, but Dell release a new discount coupons that allowed to buy 19 inch monitor for $300 including shipping. If I did not know about that information, I am very pleased with I have received for $240. I would recommend over other highly price LCD monitors like Sony. Not only Dell LCD monitors are cheaper but has better perfomance such as contrast ratio and brightness. Anyways, happy with the product.

Dell UltraSharp 1704FPV Black 17" LCD Monitor

Strengths: Good price,

Weakness: Not very easy to adjust

I have used it for about 6 months. It's my first LCD monitor. I remember when I recieved it, I tried to adjust brightness and contrast, but I was unable to adjust it to my satisfaction, so I gave up. Also, it's hard for me to mount my creative web camera on it, due to the shape of the monitor.

mhuo,

This also was my first LCD monitor and I had the same problem. I discovered the solution. If you use the DVI plug, the brightness and contrast can only be changed by your VIDEO CARD software. (ATI, Nvidia, etc). On your desktop, right mouse click in a blank area and bring up properties. Choose the settings tab and then click on the advanced buttons. The dialog box that comes up should be the one that your video card software installed - assuming you have a recent computer with a decent card. I have a dell 8300. Just change the brightness and contrast there and your good to go.

Personally, I have to turn the brightness and contrast down at night and back up during the day - if I remember!

Good luck. I do like this monitor a lot myself!

Very Nice LCD Monitor

Strengths: Bright screen, adjustable stand, built-in USB ports.

Weakness: None

Screen is very crisp and bright. As others mentioned, stand is heavy which I consider to be a plus since it's less likely the monitor will be accidentally knocked over. I also like the convenience of the USB ports built in to the monitor. Optional sound bar is OK - great for space-saving but predictable sound quality.
