Failed

Strengths: Quiet, Fast.

Weakness: Not long lasting

Had this inside my media player, all was fine until one day it started making clicking sounds, then it died. Unacceptable that it's life span was 6 months. Lucky it was still under warranty but I hate dealing with that stuff, I have better things to do.

Samsung HD501LJ

Strengths: Quiet, fairly fast, decent temp

Weakness: Failed, company warrenty

Failed after one year. It started with getting drive errors and two hours later - Clicking sound, can't get at any data (have backup). In a QuadCore system with 2 other Western Digital 500gb drives which are older and still running strong. Samsung makes it very hard to return for replacement. Check out their site for info on this before ordering.

It's all good!

Strengths: Price, capacity, performance, temperature, noise.

Weakness: None

Samsung has a winner with the T166 series. With previous models they gained a well deserved reputation for being cool and quiet but can now boast top-tier performance as well. There's really nothing not to like here, which usually cannot be said with other manufacturers as there always seems to be some compromise. There's really nothing not to like here, which usually cannot be said with other manufacturers as there always seems to be some compromise. I always recommend running the applicable test utility before committing data -in this case HUTIL, which also allows adjusting Acoustic Management however the seeks are so quiet it may as well remain disabled.

So far so good!

Strengths: Very quiet. fast. Great price.

Weakness: None so far

This drive seems faster than any other brand I have used. My system is really very quiet now. Never realized just how loud last drives were. Plus it was considerably cheaper!

HD failure

Strengths: Drive was included in an HP system purchased in February of 2008. Quick and quiet.

Weakness: Drive failed in August of 2008. No warrantee, except as provided by HP which was only one year.

I purchased an HP computer in Feburary of 2008. The computer worked above expectations until August of 2009 when it started to have some stall issues. One day all I would hear from the drive is clicking noises as the system attempted to boot. I had a diagnostic performed by a repair professional and they advised that the bearings in the HD were over heating. I contacted Samsung about this apparent defect and was advised that I needed to return the drive to HP to have it covered by their warrantee. Unfortunately for me, the computer warrantee expired 6 months earlier.

I've replaced the HD with a more reliable HD from Western Digital who happens to have a 3 year warrantee. I've been running the Western Digitals in my built systems with no failures.
