Seagate is making some great drives for use in computers that are used a lot and for enthusiasts that require state of the art performance. Check out TomsHardware dot com for their hard drive charts. This model and it's other size cousins consistently come in right at the top. I use this in a RAID0 configuration and get over 200MB/s transfer rates. This is incredible performance folks!

Very Fast, Quiet drive

Strengths: Very fast drive with a 32 MB cache (comparable WD drive only has a 16 MB cache), and VERY quiet.

Weakness: Actual size is only 698 MB, not the advertised 750 MB. Beware of Seagate's deceptive marketing.

I bought this to replace a Seagate 7200.10 320 MB (298 MB useable) drive as my system drive (the old drive still works and is now being used as a backup drive). The 7200.11 is noticeably quieter than the 7200.10, which is saying something because I used to be thrilled by the accoustics of the 7200.10 (now it seems loud by comparison). The 7200.11 is noticeably quieter than the 7200.10, which is saying something because I used to be thrilled by the accoustics of the 7200.10 (now it seems loud by comparison). The drive is really fast.

I flashed the hard drive firmware immediately to avoid the reported problem (link to firmware update is listed in a review on the newegg web site) so I didn't experience any problems there. I don't really know if I had to do this, but I didn't want to take any chances since the merchant reviews indicated they were shipping a lot of the drives with the faulty firmware.

I've been happy with my 7200.10 drive (which I've been using for over a year) and so far am very happy with this drive. I would definately recommend it.

Best of the Best

Weakness: You lose almost 50 GB of space in installation.

Seagate provides an excellent utility called DiscWizard. This utility not only helps you partition the drive, it also includes the interface of "Acronis Tue Image". Seagate reality check - WARNING stay away! Faulty FW SD04!

Strengths: The reported statistics are what made me purchase this drive, but was really disapointed after installation.

Weakness: Drive reported as 'ST3_INVALID_PFM', while working, it actually only shows 8MB of buffer (should be 32)and lists as a SataI (should be SataII).

Using HDTune program identified the errors. Contacted Seagate tech-support and received extremely friendly but useless support that did not resolve the issue. They have provided a new version of Firm ware, namely 'AD14'. This is supposed to fix the problem that is known to Seagate, but does not take faulty drives off the shelfs. This FW applies equally to the 500, 750 and 1000MB drives of this...

REMEDY as provided by Seagate a) return to us and we will replace with a refurbished unit (NO THANKS!).
b) try to fix it on your friends computer, (CD image for FW update did not install on my machine.
Best solution and my recommendation: Don't buy this unit.

Barracuda - Big and Fast

Strengths: Fast, Big, Reliable, QUIET.

Weakness: No weaknesses. Others complain that it's not a true 750Gb. However, my HDD is 750,153,363,456 bytes. That's as close to 750Gb as you're going to get and it's perfect.

I'm using this Seagate Barracuda in a Rosewill FX-358-S external enclosure. When i turn it on, the USB connection only takes seconds for the PC to recognize it and i'm ready to go. I wouldn’t recommend doing a full format of this hdd as it will take you forever to complete it. It makes a perfect solution for a backup HDD for all of my pictures, music, movies, and games. It makes a perfect solution for a backup HDD for all of my pictures, music, movies, and games. On my USB interface I’ve been transferring at an average Read of 38MB/sec and Write at 33MB/sec.
I Love it, and you will too. Plus with Seagate’s 5 year warranty, how can you go wrong?
